New “Ground Breaking” Attraction

Did we get you? - This post was part of our 2022 April Fools joke, don’t worry there are no plans to construct an HS2 access shaft at the Heritage Centre.

Crewe Heritage Centre together with HS2 are excited to announce the construction of a new and exciting visitor attraction.

As part of plans to construct a 7km long tunnel under Crewe for HS2, a large access shaft will have to be excavated at the Heritage Centre to allow for reinforcing and culverting of both the North bound Liverpool Independent Line and the Valley Brook, both of which pass beneath our site.

After this strengthening work has been completed, a sub-terrainian viewing area will be constructed which will be accessible by the country’s longest firefighters pole measuring a whopping 50 meters, which will run from ground level past the existing freight tunnel down to HS2, which will be behind glass screens with work expected to start in the next three years.

This will allow all trains using the tunnels to be observed by visitors to CHC as they pass at speeds of up to 360 km/h (225mph) and will also give the additional benefit of excellent access for maintenance and emergencies to both railways.

HS2 is estimated to begin operating between 2029 & 2033.
