87035 'Robert Burns' Moved to Basford Hall
On Monday 11th January 2021, 87035 temporarily left the Crewe Heritage Centre for Basford Hall (Freightliner)
A deal which benefits both parties has been agreed with Locomotive Services Ltd and Crewe Heritage Trust Ltd, The locomotive is donating 2 of its traction motors to provide spares to keep Locomotive Services Ltd’s 86101/87002 running on the mainline. Crewe Heritage Trust Ltd has not taken this decision lightly and it is the last resort to keep these working examples running for the foreseeable future.
The work will involve lifting the locomotive off its bogies, removing traction motors 2 and 3 and refitting them with two dud Class 87 motors to keep the bogie weight up and balanced.
